Let me begin by saying, I am pretty good at business, deals, getting people to spend too much money on stuff, and not getting screwed out of a dollar. However, I have THE BIGGEST conscience in the WHOLE world so its not like I ever make money anyway haha.
Alright. I have this really sharp lookin’ Suburban that I need to sell. I just fixed (almost) all of its issues (brakes and steering components and some randoms like a door handle). Well it has nearly 195,000 miles on it. This bitch runs and drives like brand new tho so THAT helps. Very well maintained and not the type of maintained a broke teenage boy talks about lol. So I listed it on Craigslist for $4,000. Hoping to get $3,500 for it. Well. A day or two passes and I lower it to $3,500 cuz it def has high miles. I’m prepared to take $3,000. Ok so my husband says I would be lucky to get $2,800 for it and he would crap his pants if I did. No faith hun.. no faith.
Anyway! This ADORABLE lady calls me and is SO excited and is SURE she wants to buy it and offers me $3,000 and asks if I can meet her half way (she was two hours away). I said yes of course, and I accepted her offer. She was full of laughter and excitement and she was saying how she has been searching EVERYWHERE for a Suburban and she cant believe she found me an such (she is not from my state) I was like aww omg yay! She has 2 grandkids, 3 dogs, and 2 kids living with her along with her husband who offers taxi rides to people who are drunk and sometimes doesn’t charge them (if they can’t pay). See? NICE people.
Next freakin day some guy calls me from 4 hours away and asks how much I was willing to take. I told him I already had an offer for $3,200 (see what I did there) and that if it didn’t go through that I would call him back. He calls me back 3 minutes later and was like “I’ll give you the full 35”
God DAMNIT
So after pacing for a while I emailed the very nice lady and told her I had an offer for $3,500 and asked if she could match it. Sent the email.. waited a little while.. felt horrible and before she could respond I told her not to worry about it, that 3000 was fine and that I told the other guy it was sold.
She emails me back later and thanked me for being so honest and keeping my word and that she couldn’t wait to meet me. Well I haven’t sold it yet but my conscience is clean and I feel less stressed. However. God I feel like such a sucker! I got a FANTASTIC deal on my last car I sold (05 Sliverado with a bad transmission in exchange for the suburban, an 1100 demo saw and $500 cash) but I guess I would rather sell it to a kind woman who needs it than someone else for more money. KARMA BETTER KICK IN SOON lol jk.
OH AND ANOTHER THING!!!
My truck.. attracts some GHETTO ASS PEOPLE.. I mean If you would like to be “thug” that is fine with me, but don’t be stingey too. These guys were far from speaking proper English and not very polite and LOW BALL. Sorry not selling you my truck for $2000. I may be a sucker but I don’t run a charity lol. I also had someone ask me for JUST the tires and rims.. ? What? No! Well I told him if he wanted to pay the full 3500 he could take just the tires if that is what he wanted to do haha. I mean how do you sell a car with no wheels? He declined.
And someone I know personally? (NOT my favorite person by any means.. actually i think my second least favorite..) told me he knew someone who would take it “as-is” for $1000 right now. I was like, listen. I can get about 4x that amount “as-is” and there is nothing wrong with it. So no thank you. And if you ever need help selling a vehicle and not getting COMPLETELY screwed… give me a call.

So that is my experience this time with selling. Hopefully I wont need to make another deal soon, considering I am going to be buying my DREAM CAR now 😀 super excited!
